Q is for Sleeping Queens

Link up to the ABC's

Shh! It’s Q week for the ABCs for Home Schooling, which makes me wonder: have you ever played Sleeping Queens?

It’s a great card game for many ages, with a fun story about its creation. (A little girl dreamed about it and told her family the dream during breakfast the next morning. Then her parents helped her develop the idea into a game!)

Here’s a view of the cards used:

Kings, queens, knights, dragons, jesters, even a secret potion! power cards by selcmom, on Pix-O-Sphere

The goal of the game is to wake up a certain number of queens before the rest of the players can. There’s plenty of strategy involved, along with simple math skills, a little bit of chance, and a dash of imagination.

And such creative royalty! There’s the Fire King, the Rose Queen, the Tie Dye King, the Cat Queen and the Dog Queen. (Don’t let those two get together… they fight like cats and dogs, of course.)queens by selcmom, on Pix-O-Spherekings by selcmom, on Pix-O-Sphere

We even have fun after the game is over. That’s when our youngest lover of princesses takes over. We match up kings and queens and have a great big royal wedding!

Portable, imaginative, easy to learn, and fun to play: this game gets a definite thumbs up from everyone in our family!

I’d love to know — what games do you love to play with your kids?

  1. Very cool! Where can I get this game? My girls would love it. My son might be ok with it since it has kings and knights.

Cristy, you can buy it online at Amazon or Barnes & Noble. It’s a Gamewright game, so also available at “real” stores if you prefer!
